EXPANDED NARRATIVES

Students explored storytelling based on a day in the life of somewhere. Through a process of creative iterations students created  a collage, value drawing and stop motion animation.

PROCESS

Short stories were written and students gathered imaginary and created a collage with specific planning on how to organize space through a combination of foreground, middle ground, and background. Their collage image served as references and was reinterpreted into a drawing using charcoal on paper. They incorporated ways of working with the value scale of highlights, mid-tones, and shades to create an illusion of form and space. Next, students created storyboards with simple thumbnail sketches which were used as a reference for planning a series of drawings for making their stop motion video.
