Having grown up in Saudi Arabia and currently living in India I straddled both worlds - one where women were required to wear a veil and one where women were not. The veil acted as a safety blanket, a cocoon, shielding from judgment, and fostering a sense of belonging and comfort in tradition. My body of work explores my confusing ambiguity of acceptance and non-acceptance, putting on a veil and taking it off. I delve into the dichotomous relationship between comfort and pride versus stripping a woman of her individuality. What interest me is the fall of fabric, the folds, the textures, the forms it takes, what it hides and what it reveals.
